How to store passwords: Hashing and Salting

In this talk, David Berger attempts to decrypt the world of password storage and answer such questions as: How are passwords stored in a way that's safe? What are some of the ways that these safeguards can be attacked? What is a salt and what makes a good cryptographic hash function? What is SHA-1 and why shouldn't we use it anymore?
