The Software Engineering Immersive is intended for intermediate coders. For a beginner experience, learn more about our Web Development Immersive.

All Fullstack Academy Coding Bootcamps are divided into 3 phases.



The self-paced, online Foundations course is intended for intermediate coders with some experience to independently prepare for the core curriculum. You’ll learn through videos, workshops, and digital exercises for 15-30 hours per week over 4 weeks—with access to a discussion forum and mentor guidance throughout.

Core Curriculum: Junior Phase

Throughout this rigorous second phase, you’ll be studying to master technical skills and professional coding communication.

Junior Phase Software Engineering Curriculum

  • Front-end development. User expectations of Web and Mobile Applications have significantly increased in the last 10 years, and the sophistication of front-end development has increased to match it. You will study HTML5 and advanced CSS, and go beyond with modern technologies like React.

  • Back-end development. You’ll take your JavaScript skills to the back-end with Node.js and the amazing ecosystem of libraries that have made JavaScript the industry standard of back-end web engineering. We’ll teach you to use APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to connect to vast amounts of data to power your web applications.

  • Databases. You will then master data organization and storage by working with popular SQL relational databases like Postgres, and learn how to integrate them into your applications.

Junior Phase Features

  • Pair Programming. Working with a fellow student, you’ll each use your newfound knowledge to write and optimize front-end and back-end code. This helps you build real-world experience and prepare for industry standard, technical coding interviews.

  • Interview Prep. You’ll learn the basics of standard interviewing Q&A and start to integrate these best practices into pair programming communications.

Core Curriculum: Senior Phase

At this point, you’ll have a solid understanding of the technologies taught in the immersive program. The Senior phase is your time to put that knowledge to use by building fully functional web applications from scratch. You will continue to study full-time during this phase–deepening your knowledge by solving real-world problems and applying best practices to your work.

Senior Phase Software Engineering Curriculum

  • Guided team project. You’ll join a group of 3-4 students to collectively create a functional e-commerce site–building all the components of a web application including the front-end, back-end, and database.

  • Personal project. After formulating your own idea for a web or mobile application, you’ll start to build it from scratch. You will take design considerations into account, like user experience and information architecture in addition to full stack development. You will learn new technologies or libraries in order to complete this project, which will help you learn how to learn advanced coding concepts throughout your career.

  • Capstone project. You will work with a team of students to come up with an ambitious idea for an app, and build it out over 2 weeks. This will be the most impressive project in your portfolio and will demonstrate your full understanding of software development and industry best practices.

Senior Phase Features

  • Career Coaching. Fullstack Academy’s Career Coaches are your one-stop professional development resource. They’ll work with you on core aspects of the job search–from technical interview preparation to resume optimization–throughout the Senior phase of your coding journey and beyond.

Tuition and Payment Options

Students will need to make an initial deposit at enrollment with the remaining balance due one week prior to the first day of the cohort.

Fullstack Academy is committed to making tech education more accessible, so we’re reducing the enrollment deposit to $99* (normally $2,000) for a limited time. Get started on your journey before the deposit increases!

Build a Portfolio of Apps

By the time you graduate from the Software Engineering Bootcamp, you’ll have 3 projects in your software engineering portfolio: a group e-commerce website, a personal hackathon project, and your final team capstone project. All your code will be housed on Github and built out with real-world libraries and methodologies–demonstrating your technical, practical, and creative skills to future employers.

Software Engineering Immersive Bootcamp Daily Schedule

You’ll get a full live online classroom experience with your classmates and instructors through a mix of live instruction, coding exercises, and team projects. No two days are the same, but here’s an example of what a typical day looks like in the Junior Phase of our online coding bootcamps:


Your morning starts with a self-led review of notes and other learning materials to prepare for class.

You’ll receive live instruction from a Fullstack Academy instructor, followed by a real-time demonstration of each new concept.

The class then breaks into groups or pairs for a collaborative coding session facilitated by our highly interactive video conferencing platform. Pair programming is an essential skill for any developer and also aids in the learning process by cultivating skills like reading documentation and thinking creatively to solve programming challenges.

You will take a 90-minute break to recharge and refuel. Many of our students take advantage of this time to get some exercise as well, which helps to get them energized for the rest of the day.

The afternoon consists of additional instruction or a continuation of pair exercises. Your instructor or teaching mentors are then available to review your code and answer any questions you may have via our learning management system.

Pair Programming

Throughout bootcamp, you’ll program alongside a partner. Together, you’ll assume defined roles to solve programming challenges and double-check each other’s work.

  • We love Ruby on Rails and Python/Django. However, the web industry waits for no developer or technology.

    The future of web development has moved toward sophisticated, responsive, and dynamic “single page” applications running in the browser. Apps like Gmail, Asana, Trello, Facebook, and Google Maps have redefined what users expect from “web applications” and what developers need to deliver.

    After observing these trends, plus conducting lots of research and conversations with industry experts, we’ve come to the conclusion that full stack JavaScript is the future of web development. Consequently, it is what we primarily immerse our students in at Fullstack Academy.

    What about Ruby on Rails? Why are other schools teaching Rails?

    When we first discovered Rails in 2005, developers were coming from an age where PHP back-end sites were getting increasingly complex and were becoming difficult to manage and scale. Rails excelled in this world, where the goal was still to develop HTML/CSS-centric web interfaces with heavy back-ends. Rails consolidated many best practices in back-end web development and made it easier for developers to build large sites in an organized way.

    A lot has changed since 2005, however. Companies today want to give users highly interactive and responsive experiences that don’t require a page refresh at every step. As a result, the web is dominated by “single page” applications or SPAs written in JavaScript using frameworks like React or Ember.js–making JavaScript one of the best programming languages to learn. Increasingly, the role of Rails has shifted to serve as an API layer to the back-end of web applications.

    JavaScript also offers professional advantages over other languages. Fullstack Academy graduates are well-rounded coders with both a thorough understanding of the full stack and programming concepts in general. We’ve learned through years of tech education that students may more easily understand and master other coding languages once they’ve learned full stack JavaScript. This gives them a more in-demand skill set that separates them from the competition and widens the range of coding job types they’re qualified for.

  • Fullstack Academy is not currently able to accept tuition assistance payments from the new GI Bill (though we’re working hard on changing this!). However, veterans do automatically qualify for our $1,000 scholarship, and additional tuition assistance may be acquired through VET TEC or VRRAP.

  • There are a great number of online resources available and we encourage you to try them. Particularly for beginners, tools like Codecademy, Code School, and Team Treehouse can help you learn and practice in-demand coding concepts.
