Confidence, Code, and Community: Nick Vila’s Bootcamp Experience
By The Fullstack Academy

For Nick Vila, the decision to enroll in a coding bootcamp powered by Fullstack Academy wasn’t about starting from scratch—it was about leveling up.
Nick already worked in IT, so technology itself wasn’t intimidating. But when it came to building modern web applications, he knew there were gaps in his skill set.
“I came from an IT background so I wasn't shy to a lot of this but my level of understanding was not great. As far as Javascript was concerned, especially working with React, I had no knowledge.”
Like many people in tech-adjacent roles, Nick understood how systems worked from the outside. What he wanted was the ability to build things himself—and bring his ideas to life through code.
Learning by Doing
During the program, Nick dove into the fundamentals of web development, with a strong focus on JavaScript. While the curriculum moved quickly, he found that the pace helped him stay engaged and keep building momentum.
“I had a great time during this program. I wish the Javascript portion was a bit longer and more detailed but the pacing overall was helpful. At least it feels like it was enough to get started on something that's both small and large.”
Each project helped reinforce the idea that coding isn’t just theory—it’s about building. From smaller exercises to larger applications, Nick began seeing how the pieces of modern web development fit together.
Learning the Standards That Developers Use
One of the biggest benefits of the experience was learning development practices that mirror real-world workflows. Instead of figuring everything out alone, Nick was introduced to tools and standards used by professional teams.
“I think everything taught put me in the direction I needed. More than just 'getting started' too. While I understand I'm a junior developer, I feel like I got a leg up from those teaching themselves. This bootcamp has taught me how to use industry standards to help expand on my creative ideas.”
By the end of the program, Nick felt better prepared not only to continue learning—but to approach development with the mindset and structure used in the industry.
From Nervous to Confident
Starting something new can feel intimidating, especially when it involves learning an entirely new skill set. Nick says he felt that same hesitation before enrolling—but the support system quickly changed his outlook.
“Take the plunge! It seems scary at first but the amount of support you gain from this community makes you forget about your initial feelings fast. I went from scared to extremely confident during my 3 months. Honestly if there was an advanced level for the web development class, I'd probably sign up for that too. It was a great experience and if you're thinking about it, just do it.”
Ready to Start Your Own Coding Journey?
Nick’s story is a reminder that you don’t have to come from a traditional developer background to succeed in tech. With the right guidance, structure, and community, it’s possible to build real skills—and real confidence—in a short amount of time.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your tech career, explore programs at Fullstack Academy and see how a coding bootcamp can help you turn curiosity into real-world development skills.
