From Fulfillment Center to Software Engineering: Anthony's New Career Path

My name is Antonio Ruiz. I have a bachelor's degree in computer science. I studied that in Venezuela, my country. After move here to United States, I started an Amazon tier one associate working in the store department. So working as a process assistant, I found a position. I think the the name was a program developer or something like that. So I asked for a one on one with my manager. And in that moment, I didn't speak any English. So I talked with him. So I told him that, hey. I know that I need to improve my English skill, but when we're talking about programming and tech stuff, I'm good at it. So he he told me, Joe, okay. Just apply for it. If you pass the test, so you maybe can get the position. You know? So I applied for it. I got the position. And I after maybe two or three years in the position, I realized that Amazon pay for studies. So then I applied for boot camp, the full stack boot camp. Almost a year after graduate boot camp, after finished the boot camp, I got my current job as a software developer. SD one, I think, is the title in the Job Finder, and Amazon. So I'm working in the GSO department right now. One of the thing or my strategy to to follow together my job was, okay. Let me pin for another developer inside Amazon to know what they have that I don't have to start to work from there. For example, if they know a different language that I don't know, okay, let's start to learn that language to to apply for a similar role. Every day I have to build to make a commit in my gear. And the best way to to I found to do that is every day to try to solve a problem for lead code. The easy ones, the medium ones, whatever. But like that, I'm starting for the code interview and at the same time make a commit in my GitHub. That was one of the good feedback that I got from my interviewer. So we love your GitHub because we can see in the you know, the GitHub that give you a timeline with the colors that you commit. We can see in ten months, you you are passionate about code, so you like code that that's what you want in the inside our company. My first advice is don't try to memorize algorithms. That's a terrible idea. I know because I tried. Try to recognize pattern or try to recognize how the pattern or how the algorithms that you know can fix in that pattern. And my other advice is is all your previous knowledge can help you in the technical interview. In this position, specifically in this position, we built software for the fulfillment center. So my knowledge around how the fulfillment center works helped me a lot to get the position. Position. Demonstrate the bias for action principle. So one of the the thing that I learned in all the process now that I have the the job is if you demonstrate that you are really interested in the position, maybe someone is gonna grab your resume. Try to contact with the hiring manager or the human resource hiring associate to say, hey. That's me and Anthony. I have a bachelor degree. I know this, this, this. I'm interested in this position, practice, and I started that structure. Because if you are familiar with data structure and time complexity is gonna give you a boss, a really buzz in the technical interview. There is a common sense that bad programming is worrying about algorithms. Good programming is worrying about data structure. So that's my advice. So, focus on the study that structure and time complexity.
