Motivated by impatience while waiting for her girlfriend to make daily Instagram posts for company accounts, Shannon Kendall decided to write a program to autogenerate an optimized lists of hashtags. She used her time during Grace Hopper's November Stackathon to dive into Neo4j - the industry's leading platform for graph databases- and construct a prototype for the functionality of her application's data structure.

Shannon initially approached seeding her database with Nightmare.js- a browser automation library with the capability of scraping websites. However, after encountering a number of challenges interacting with Instagram's DOM, she chose to use her time more productively by simulating scraped data in a relational data structure through Sequelize, converting those tables into a CSV file, and using Neo4j's import functionality to create a mock-database from which she can now build her prototype.
