Proximal

Find the lexile range of any text with Proximal!

Courtney Napleton created Proximal in order to help teachers determine the lexile measures of articles, short stories, and other short works that they wish to share with students. With the help of a machine learning algorithm (the naive Bayes classifier), Courtney trained the app to recognize those words that appear more frequently in each of three lexile ranges. After storing to hundreds of thousands of words and assigning lexile categories to their corresponding documents, she employed Bayes' Theorem to determine the most likely category of any given text, word by word.
