Genetic algorithms are a way to find optimizations in large problem spaces without using linear algebra or calculus knowledge. In this video, Andrew Hookom presents the basics of how a genetic algorithm works with an emphasis on the knowledge needed to get started writing genetic algorithms. The talk includes discussion of a simple "Hello World!" example that walks the viewer through the process of designing the algorithm and then shows its implementation using the "geneticalgorithm" Node.js package. Toward the end, Andrew addresses some common challenges people face in getting their genetic algorithms to work.
